There is a growing need for
skilled and creative teachers in the changing world
milieu –to nourish the students, to fire their
imagination, to help them grow to their maximum
potential. Recognizing the changing role of teachers
in the global era and the qualitative improvement
in education, the managing committee of Sant Kartar
Singh Ji Kamalia Wale Educational Society decided
to start Doraha College of Education. In the wake
of progressive educational policies been implemented
in India and abroad, efficiency, expertise and effectiveness
are the key skills to be imparted to the pupil teachers.
The college endeavours at harmonious and all round
development of the students by providing healthy
and congenial atmosphere necessary for their intellectual,
moral, aesthetic and physical growth as well as
emotional stability. Recognizing these needs the
managing committee of Doraha College of Education
(DCE) worked untiringly with a sense of devotion,
zeal, vigour and commitment to set up this college.
The college is situated on the
banks of Sirhind Canal, 20 Kms from Ludhiana. It
is surrounded by natural beauty. The historic Damdama
Sahib Gurudwara of Sri Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji and
the fort of Sher Shah Suri provide a Majestic backdrop
to this Institute. The Sirhind Canal flowing next
to the Institute makes it a picturesque spot. The
calm and serene location is most conducive to good
education.
The college derives inspiration
from a great Saint, Sant Kartar Singh Ji Kamalia
Wale. He is known for his lofty ideals, rich intellectual
perception, unimpeachable devotion and selfless
service to humanity. The basic philosophy of the
college is based on the fabric of eastern thinking
and western concepts. To achieve this goal, the
Institute is targeted to impart global perspective
to the teacher trainees.
The Chairman of the College S.
Sukhpal Singh is an educationist with grit and determination
. He has a sharp vision, solid philosophy and a
clear chain of thoughts. He has totally dedicated
himself to the objectives of the institute. Besides
the College of Education, he is running a Secondary
School – Sri Guru Harkrishan Public School,
Doraha and a Management Institute – Doraha
Institute of Management & Technology and Doraha Public School affiliated to CBSE.
Sri Guru Harkrishan Public School,
Doraha was established in 1991 in the memory of
Sriman Sant Sangat Singh Ji Maharaj of Kamalia.
Sant Ji dedicated his entire life to teach people
the love of God. Sri Guru Harkrishan Public School
is a renowned, senior secondary school. It is an
English medium school affiliated to Punjab School
Education Board. Its students have been winning
laurels for the town both in academics and co-curricular
activities.
Sant Kartar Singh Ji, son of Sant
Sangat Singh Ji lived in Patiala and carried forward
his father's ideals. He encouraged children to take
up higher education and become self-reliant. Under
his guidance many students in Patiala became doctors,
teachers and administrators. To perpetuate his memory
Sant Kartar Singh Educational Society was formed
by an eminent group of educationists. This society
started the DORAHA INSTITUTE OF MANAGEMENT AND TECHNOLOGY
in 2001 with University courses for BBA, BCA and
MBA. Located next to DCE it has been serving the
neighbourhood fulfilling a long felt need. The students
of DIMT have been consistently excelling in studies
and are well placed in different fields of industry.
Doraha College of Education is
the third effort by the same management to bring
quality education to Doraha.
